London, UK 5/5/2005 Entertainment software developer and publisher NovaLogic, Ltd. today confirmed key unique features for Delta Force® – Black Hawk Down® which is currently under development for the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system. The game, which is based on the #1 best selling PC game of the same name, has been re-developed from the ground up by British based development studio Rebellion, using their proprietary game engine, and includes features unique to the platform.
16 single player missions based upon and around the Operation Restore Hope and Task Force Ranger campaigns offer gamers a true sense of what it was like for Special Forces actually in Somalia during 1993. Particular attention has been paid to the ‘atmosphere’ of the game and the gritty environments and cinematic cut scenes draw players into the harsh reality of the conflict that took place during that time.
The single player game includes a unique ‘skill based’ character development system where gamers can unlock bonus skills as they successfully complete each mission. These bonus skills include improved marksmanship, dexterity, endurance and leadership skills. Players can also unlock and choose weapons related to their character class. The voice command feature allows gamers to issue orders to their AI team mates during single player games (such as “give ammo” and “cover me”), and also to their real life team mates in the co-op missions and multiplayer games online, using the headset. The PlayStation 2 version of the game also includes 3 additional weapons than won’t be found in either the Xbox or PC version of the game. These are the H&K G3A3, H&K G36E and the H&K PSG1 Sniper rifle.
More details on the multiplayer features will be announced closer to the launch of the game but NovaLogic has confirmed that gamers can play in games of up to 32 players online, which is a first for any PlayStation 2 online enabled video game.
Delta Force – Black Hawk Down for PlayStation 2 is due to launch this summer. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the game will be donated to the Special Operations Warrior Foundation (SOWF). The SOWF provides college scholarship grants, along with financial aid and educational counseling to the children of Special Operations personnel who were killed in an operational mission or training accident.
